core services
All CCDs in Ohio are required to provide the following
services with some CCDs giving certain goals priority over other goals,
depending on local needs. They include:
CASE MANAGEMENT
Services to meet the consumer’s goals including
individual consumer advocacy, accessing community/governmental programs,
independent living needs, money management, interpretation/reading of
correspondence, and writing letters.
RSC/CCD COLLABORATION
Collaborating with the State of Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission
(RSC)
and Community Centers for the Deaf (CCDs). CCDs refer people who are
deaf/hard
of hearing and in need of vocational rehabilitation services to appropriate
RSC offices. RSC refers consumers to a CCD for necessary social services
for support to succeed in their rehabilitation program and/or assists
consumers
to function independently in their community.
EDUCATION
Learning programs provided through CCDs to benefit the deaf/hard of
hearing
includes sign language instruction, consumer enhancement (e.g., deafness/hard
of hearing-related equipment for consumer, professional training, and leadership
training), and professional development (e.g., Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA), Deafness101, and deafness/hard of hearing-related equipment for
consumers)
COMMUNITY ADVOCACY
Provides awareness and access to community services for deaf/hard of
hearing
persons and their families, and accessibility consultation and advocacy to
the general public concerning ADA, deaf/hard of hearing issues and the rights
of deaf/hard of hearing persons.
INTERPRETING SERVICES
Interpreters are required to be qualified for the assignments within
the community
and to follow the written qualification policy of the CCD and Deaf Advisory
Committee (DAC)
CCD/DAC LEADERSHIP
To increase and improve the involvement of deaf/hard of hearing people
in the
governance of the CCDs and other community organizations.
RURAL OUTREACH
To promote the rural community awareness
in deafness/hard of hearing through sign language classes, awareness
presentations and resources. To provide linkage and direct services to deaf/hard
of hearing rural residents. To promote deaf/hard of hearing rural residents& accessibility
to available services and to the utilization of appropriate support services
including interpreters, case management and advocacy.
MINORITY OUTREACH
To promote services to deaf/hard of hearing consumers,
who are also members of a racial, religious, or ethnic group that is smaller
than, and differs from, the larger controlling group in a community.
