Interpreting online services made possible by a 2003 Federal Grant

The Interpreting Online Service was made possible through a $500,000 grant that the OACCD received. The Alliance assisted the 10 CCDs in the establishment of a new pilot Interpreting Online (IO) project to help CCDs earn additional revenues to maintain the current levels of services being provided to the deaf and hard of hearing communities.

Each CCD received a 27" TV with build in camera and received training on the procedures and and equities on dealing with interpreting online assignments. This process took several months to implement all the technical issues into place. The IO project officially kicked off on January 2, 2006 and we currently have contracts with several hospitals and agencies to provide IO services. The Alliance is assisting all the CCDs in marketing the service to help each CCD build their own niches in their own communities.
